Hi, I'm Gloria.
What's up?
I'm an apparel, accessories, and footwear designer born and raised in Brooklyn and currently residing in Queens. When I’m not designing, I enjoy dancing, sewing, and playing Dungeons and Dragons.
Why sustainable design?
I founded Trash Day, a slow-fashion brand focusing on apparel and accessories handmade from recycled and upcycled materials, scraps, and trash. Exploring the idea of “no new materials” and using leftovers/excess materials to create new products, the brand ethos reimagines traditional fashion to minimize the impact of textile waste and pollution.
One of my goals is to bring communities together and promote a more conscious lifestyle using fashion. I wanted to inspire others to think of creative ways to approach making new products and reevaluate their impact on the earth, people, and culture alike. Using fashion to promote healthier consumer habits and perspectives is a stepping stone to changing the environmental and social impact that all industries create. I want people to feel comfortable and proud of all their buying decisions as our society shifts to become more progressive.
Design matters.
Before I entered the fashion world, I built my foundations in FIT’s AAS Interior Design program. It was hands-down the most intense two years of my life. I’ve learned so much and slept so little. More importantly, it was where I came to understand what it means to be a designer. An interior designer’s mission is to protect the health, safety, and wellness of all people. I believe this can apply to all areas of design—especially fashion! Design should be purposeful and thoughtful because we are designing for each other, our community, and the environment.
